LEADING CHANGE Course Overview
BECAUSE WE CAN’T CHANGE THE PAST, BUT WE CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE
Knowing what to change can be easy—more difficult is the ability to foster and implement change in an organization on a sustainable basis. The collision centers that can embrace change will be the best-prepared to take advantage of new opportunities and ensure their long-term future success. With that in mind, this 2-day course provides owners and managers the opportunity to assess and strengthen their leadership skills and learn proven approaches to leading change throughout their organization. Topics discussed include the most common reasons why companies fail at change, proven approaches to causing sustainable change, and how to implement a plan for change.

The challenge at the end of the day is not what to change or what to change to, but how to cause and sustain change! 90% of owners and managers know what needs to change and 30% can determine what to change them to, but only 15% can cause change and only 5% can sustain change. Leadership skills and the ability to lead change have never been more critical! Leading Change provides owners and managers with a blend of leadership philosophy and proven approaches to leading change based upon the writings of John Kotter as well as PPG’s comprehensive Throughput Performance Solutions research and development.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

To assist in developing strong leadership to drive organizational change and providing the skills to improve success.

TOPICS COVERED
STEPS TO LEADING SUCCESSFUL ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE – Explore John Kotter’s 8-Step Model for organizational change. Based on 15 years of research identifying why companies fail to implement real change, this model presents a simple, yet realistic approach to change. Learn how your leadership team can implement a practical process to drive changes that make a real difference in your business.

CREATING YOUR VISION FOR CHANGE – Understanding and applying leading change principles will prepare leaders to establish a sense of urgency in their company that empowers their leadership team to achieve and sustain the core values, vision, mission, and goals needed to drive successful change.

ELEMENTS OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE – Leadership involves more than just making changes.  It is critical that leaders understand how the three primary components, foundational to every organization, are interrelated and how they must be aligned for real change to take place.  Discover how the interrelationships between your (1) Purpose, (2) People, and (3) Process will make or break change efforts.

COMMON ERRORS THAT IMPEDE CHANGE – Discover the 8 most common errors around implementing change initiatives in any company.  Identifying, understanding, and avoiding these errors can lead to improved organizational change and reduce a resistance to your change ideas.

“SMART” ACTION PLANNING PROCESS – Learn how to use the SMART Planning Process to build an effective change plan. Participants will identify tasks connected to concrete goals that will be used to execute their change strategy back at the shop.  A written plan will be developed for each of Kotter’s 8-steps for change.  Building this written plan will improve the effectiveness that is core to the objective of leadership.

FIGHTING THE ENEMIES OF EFFECTIVE – Finally, as important as vision, goals, and strategy are to every organization, none of these alone can achieve organizational success. The best leadership intentions and plans ultimately rely on how thriving leaders avoid the enemies of execution. Learn the 3 enemies of execution that and make you and your company drift off course.
