Altieri, an MVP Black Belt Consultant, began his career in collision repair as a technician over 35 years ago. He went on to manage his family’s business early in his career and in the 1980s founded a software company, where he developed one of the industry’s first estimating and management systems. Since joining PPG 10 years ago, he has helped guide the strategic planning and development of MVP Business Solutions, including MVP Services, Throughput Performance Solutions, ParaKaizen Performance Groups and the CertifiedFirst® Network.

From my
perspective
Every improvement requires change but every change does not result in improvement. When considering the many opportunities for improvement (change) use the 80/20 rule to make sure you are working on the right things, the 20% of problems that potentially impact 80% of the performance. The extraordinary opportunities in collision are not as much about technicians working harder or faster, but more so about the repair planning and support processes that represent roughly 20% of all applied labor and impacting 80% of the repair process performance.
